"Sweet Life (Japanese Edition)" is a collection of works by Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990), a representative Dutch photographer. This is one of Elsken's masterpieces, following "Love on the Left Bank" (1956), "Bagara" (1958), and "Jazz" (1959), and is a masterpiece among masterpieces that has been published in both Japanese and English editions. It is a record of Elsken's travels with his wife Gerda for about 14 months, and is composed of images taken in Africa, America, and Asia. It is full of Elsken's characteristic "humanity" and "love," and the powerful images with close-ups and contrasts shine. It is "Japanese printing technology" that made this image possible. When publishing this book, Elsken wrote a letter to his friend Eikoh Hosoe, asking him to introduce him to a Japanese printing company because he wanted to do a matte gravure printing similar to Rose Cruelty, and Hosoe ran around checking the printing presses. From landscapes to portraits and snapshots, Elsken's "Sweet Life" at 14 months old.
