"Tama River / Tama River 1970-74" is a collection of works by Tsuneo Enari, one of Japan's leading photographers. After graduating from university, Tsuneo Enari worked for the Mainichi Newspaper Company for 12 years, then became a freelancer in the late 1970s and continued to follow war brides who went to America. "Bride's America," a compilation of these works, won the 6th Kimura Ihei Photography Award. He is well known for his social documentaries based on the journalism he developed during his time at the newspaper company, and "Xiaohai's Manchuria," which interviewed Japanese orphans left behind in China in the former Manchuria, also won the Domon Ken Award. This book is a collection of images taken at the Tama River in the 1970s. The Tama River has now been restored to its pure state, but in the 1970s and 1980s, the water was severely polluted, the water was black, fish were floating, and birds were dead on the riverbanks. In some areas, the smell was so bad that it was rampant. In this day and age when environmental issues and sustainability are being called for, this is a book that should be revisited. Comes with obi.
