"La Maison de Rendez-vous," a collection of works by Kishin Shinoyama, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers, was published in 2016 to coincide with an exhibition held at the now-defunct Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Shinagawa. Upon receiving an invitation from museum director Toshio Hara to hold a solo exhibition, Shinoyama visited the museum and rediscovered the splendor and sensuality of the historic building and space. He then expressed his desire to hold a solo exhibition featuring works he had photographed at the Hara Museum, rather than simply showcasing his past works. While many museums shy away from exhibiting nudes or tattoos, Kishin Shinoyama took advantage of the unique characteristics of a private museum to create a rare work of art: female nudes photographed in an open, outdoor setting within the museum. This unique erotic worldview, distinct from that of Nobuyoshi Araki, takes into account the sense of awe that museum visitors may feel, realizing that the work they see was created right in front of them.
