"The Gynoids (Third Printing, Signed)" is a collection of works by Japan's leading illustrator, Sorayama Hajime. Born in Ehime Prefecture in 1947, he graduated from the Design Department of Chuo Bijutsu Gakuen, and after working for the advertising agency Asahi Tsushinsha (now Asatsu-Dekay), he became a freelancer in 1972. His "Sexy Robot" which combined metallic robots with female eroticism became a hot topic, and in 1983 he published his first book "Sexy Robot" (Genkosha), which made him famous all at once. Since the 1990s, he has been attracting attention from overseas, including the United States, and was in charge of the concept design for the pet robot series "AIBO" released by Sony in 1999, which was also included in MoMA's permanent collection. Sorayama's activities have not diminished since then, including commercials and collaborations with brands, but this book is a collection of works themed on beautiful cyborg women. It is full of fetishistic elements such as slender waists, long legs, stiletto heels, and protruding breasts. The images are sensual yet violent.
