Naked Britain is a collection of works by British photographer Amelia Allen. Allen has a background in fashion photography, but in this work she turns her camera to the images of nudists, who eschew the symbolism of clothing. The setting is nudist communities scattered across the UK. These communities embody the inherent freedom and equality of human beings through spending time completely naked, regardless of age, body type, or gender. Allen captures this tranquil, euphoric atmosphere in soft, primarily monochrome tones. The people in her photographs, freed from shame and staging, are imbued with a deep, affirming gaze of self-acceptance, quietly raising themes of body and society, gaze and existence. This book transcends the traditional context of nude photography and reexamines nudity from an open perspective.
