"Hong Kong Yesterday" is a photo collection by Shanghai-born photographer and filmmaker Fan Ho, who moved to Hong Kong in 1949 after the war. He was born in Shanghai in 1931 and captured Hong Kong's turbulent decades, from its emergence as a British colony to its rapid economic development and subsequent handover to China in 1997. From the 1960s onward, he began his career as an actor, then an assistant, before moving full-time to film directing. Since then, he has produced nearly 30 works. His images, captured with exceptional lighting and composition, are full of beauty reminiscent of a scene from a film, rich in humanity and romance. Fan Ho has received approximately 300 awards to date, and his works are permanently housed in numerous museums around the world, including MoMA. This book, a collection of his representative works, was first published in 2006 and is currently in its fifth reprint edition. Described by a renowned gallerist as "the direct descendant of the Bauhaus," this book is captivating, featuring images brimming with sculptural beauty and poetic sentiment. Published in 2020, 7th edition.
