This photo collection features Japanese photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012). Born in San Francisco, he spent his time in Kochi Prefecture from 1924 to 1939 before returning to the United States and graduating from the Department of Architecture at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1952. He then graduated from the Department of Photography at the Institute of Design (commonly known as the New Bauhaus, which merged with the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1949). After returning to Japan, he stayed in Chicago from 1958 to 1961. In 1969, he published "Chicago, Chicago," a collection of photographs taken during his two stays in Chicago, one as a student and the other after graduation. This collection remains highly regarded as a masterpiece in the history of Japanese photography. In addition to previously unpublished photographs, this volume also includes photographs taken during a return visit to Chicago in 1982. Ishimoto's exceptional sense of form and refined sensibility are evident in this volume. While "Chicago, Chicago" is rare and difficult to obtain, its appeal lies in its ability to allow visitors to easily enjoy Ishimoto's photographs from this period.
