"The Ikonta Story (With OBI)" is a photo collection by leading Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. Inspired by his father, a geta craftsman and amateur photographer from the downtown area (Minowa, Taito Ward), Araki began taking up photography. This book is a compilation of photographs taken with an Ikonta (a spring camera manufactured by Zeiss-Ikon) that was a keepsake from his father. "Last fall, for some reason, I felt the urge to take pictures with the Ikonta, and I continued taking pictures until it broke down," the obi reads. The collection is comprised of photographs taken between the fall of 1980 and February 1981, and features fragments of Araki's daily life laid out in contact sheet format, ranging from casual snapshots (including one of film director Seijun Suzuki!) to nude women. The design is by Akira Suei, who is also known as an editor. "This is not simply a record of my photographic life from last fall to this February. It is the story of my father's Ikonta, from the time he was taking pictures with the Ikonta" (from Araki's "Dedicated to My Father" at the beginning of the book). Includes obi.
