Between Girls is a collection of works by American photographer Karen Marshall. Known for her long-term documentary techniques, Marshall explores themes of memory and the passage of time in society and human relationships. This series began in 1985, capturing the friendship of two 16-year-old girls living in New York. Following the death of one of the girls in an accident, the series continues to document their growth and reunion over the course of more than 30 years. The interplay of the innocence of childhood and the loss and rebirth of adulthood quietly demonstrates the role of photography as a device for connecting memories. This deeply moving book examines both the changing relationships and unchanging bonds that exist over the course of time.
