"Personal View / With OBI" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Shozo Watari. Born in 1935 in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, Watari was a star pitcher in high school baseball, aiming to play in Koshien. After graduating, he began photography while working for the railway bureau. Around 1960, he suddenly visited the area, bringing his own work with him. He has since looked up to local photographer Shoji Ueda as his mentor, and as an amateur photographer, he has exhibited his work in prestigious competitions such as the Nikaten Exhibition, winning numerous awards. This is Watari's first book, published in 1999. It deliberately excludes works that were previously submitted to competitions, and is comprised of carefully selected black-and-white snapshots under the theme of "gazes on the surroundings." While the collection has a touch of Ueda Shoji's style, Watari's unique strength and unique perspective shine through in his many stunning works, captivating the viewer. This work won the 9th Tadahiko Hayashi Award. Includes dust jacket.
