"The Smell of India (English Edition)" is a collection of works by Italian photographer Paolo Roversi (1947-). This work, which documents his trip to India in 1989, was inspired by the eponymous book by the poet Pier Paolo Pasolini and was created while he was staying at a hotel in Kochi where Pasolini had once lived. For many years, Roversi has been at the forefront of fashion photography, depicting the inner lives of his subjects with soft light and delicate shadows, but in this work he directs his sensibility towards the atmosphere, people, and scents of a foreign land. Within the serene tones and the wavering of the grain, prayer and the passage of time permeate the image, and landscapes emerge where mystery and everyday life intersect. Pasolini's words and Roversi's photographs resonate with each other, creating a poetic collection in which different eras and sensibilities overlap as memories of a single journey.
