"India" is a collection of works by Belgian photographer Harry Glière (1941-). A pioneer of color photography and a member of Magnum Photos, Glière has captured the everyday landscapes he encountered on his travels with poetic emotion, exploring the dialogue between light and color. In this work, he captures the streets, markets, religious ceremonies, and chaotic traffic of various parts of India with a unique sense of distance, using intense colors and complex interplay of light to visually convey the rhythm of the land and the breathing of its people. His work is characterized by the way his camera appears to linger quietly, without eye contact, maintaining a position of observer while capturing the energy of the hustle and bustle in his photographs. While vibrant surfaces of red, orange, and blue dominate the image, the density of shadows creates strong contrasts, evoking inner moments such as prayer and silence. Despite his longing for different cultures and his confusion as a foreigner, his photographs do not follow stereotypes, but rather carefully capture the scenes before his eyes, resulting in a book that quietly conveys the multi-layered charm of the land.
