"We are Made of Grass, Soil, Trees, and Flowers" is a collection of works by Japanese female photographer Ayaka Yamamoto. Born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1983, she studied painting at university and later worked on performance art and video art. However, after studying abroad in San Francisco, she began taking up photography. Yamamoto developed a strong interest in communication through the lens of a camera in an environment where she couldn't speak the language, and began traveling to Europe in search of new encounters. She then attempted to create portraits of women who embodied the memories and time of each place. The series of images from this journey were compiled in her previous work, "We are Made of Grass, Soil, and Trees." While continuing her previous work and style, this new work features new images taken outside of Europe, in Hokkaido, Okinawa, and Malawi, Africa. Two cover designs are included.
