Confabulations is a collection of works by Norwegian photographer Torbjörn Rodland (1970-). Since the 1990s, Rodland has consistently produced images that simultaneously evoke intimacy and anxiety, humor and incongruity, using sophisticated light and color reminiscent of advertising photography. His portraits, still lifes, and body fragments are captivating and clear at first glance, yet somehow their meanings remain elusive, subtly stirring the viewer's emotions and interpretations. The book's title, "Confabulations," refers to a psychological state in which memories are unconsciously rewritten, without any intention to lie. The photographs included here also defy definitive answers, moving between reality and imagination, personal sensations and shared images. Rather than constraining meaning, the images, retaining the materiality unique to analog photography, generate new associations with each viewing, quietly questioning the very mechanisms by which we understand the world.
