"GIMATAI" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Jiro Konami (1986-). Konami moved to New York in 2016 and has been acclaimed as a world-renowned photographer. He began photography in 2006 and spent eight years photographing his own father, publishing his photobook "Looking at My Father" in 2013. He has also produced photographs through a variety of approaches, including shooting for fashion and lifestyle magazines and collaborating with fashion brands such as "mame," "WACKO MARIA," and "Zucca." This book, released by Tokyo fashion brand "BlackEyePatch," features the Okinawan classic car club "GIMATAI." The photos capture the lustrous, mechanical shapes of motorcycles, the impersonal tools like wrenches, and the members' acrobatic maneuvers. The book contains a collection of photographs that have the same sense of outrageousness and realism as Yoshinobu Jumonji's masterpiece "Centaur," which follows a Yokohama motorcycle team, but also have an artistic appeal thanks to Konami's unique perspective.
