Daido Moriyama, born in 1938, and Nobuyoshi Araki, born in 1940, are two photographers who have left their mark on the history of Japanese photography. Their collaboration in the photobook "Moriyama Shinjuku Araki" takes place in Shinjuku, a city familiar to both of them. This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2005. Shinjuku is a major landmark in Moriyama's career, as seen in his monumental 600-page work "Shinjuku." Similarly, for Araki, who was born in Minowa, Taito Ward, and has captured the essence of Tokyo in each era since the 1960s, Shinjuku is one of the cities he has photographed most frequently. The book primarily features photographs taken by the two photographers walking around Shinjuku together on August 16, 2004, interspersed with their past works, with the photographs of both photographers randomly arranged. In addition, Sakiko Nomura, known as Araki's assistant, photographed the two photographers on the day they were together. The text by Hiromi Kitazawa, who planned the exhibition, and the dialogue between Moriyama and Araki are also worth reading. First printing.
