"PDA" is a collection of works by Bulgarian photographer Liz Johnson Arthur (1964-). Having moved her base from Eastern Europe to London, Arthur has consistently photographed people of African descent since the 1990s. Through her long-term project "Black Balloon Archive," she has continued to capture the presence of individuals and the atmosphere of communities living in cities with an intimate sense of distance. In this book, using the title "Public Display of Affection" as a starting point, she focuses on moments of physical contact, glances, and gestures of closeness exchanged in the streets. Small acts such as holding hands or leaning on each other's shoulders emerge not merely as reflections of individual emotions, but as reflections of relationships and distances in a multicultural city. Her gaze, which moves back and forth between street photography and portraiture, quietly questions the forms of intimacy that lurk in everyday life.
