"Hot Days in Camp Hansen!!" is a collection of works by Ishikawa Mao and Higa Toyomitsu, two of the most representative photographers of postwar Okinawa. In 2013, a newly re-edited version, "Hot Days in Okinawa" (Foil), was published, but this is the original. It is a collaborative work by Ishikawa Mao and Higa Toyomitsu, who have been leading Okinawan photography, continuing the lineage of pioneers of postwar Okinawan photography such as Higa Yasuo and Taira Koshichi. Even after Okinawa's return to Japan, the Americanized streets remained, and Ishikawa, eager to photograph the lively nightlife of the American soldiers, worked in a bar frequented by foreigners herself and even made a boyfriend who was an American soldier. Gradually, she became more captivated by the beautiful and strong figures of the women working there than by the foreigners, and her camera's focus shifted to them. Although working with foreigners sometimes drew cold and harsh stares, this masterpiece passionately captures the image of women living strongly for life and for love. However, pages 7-8 and 57-60 were removed after publication due to privacy concerns. Text by Shomei Tomatsu, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Yoko Tokuda. With dust jacket. Extremely rare book.
