"Diary (With OBI)" is a collection of works by American photographer and artist Peter Beard. After studying with Josef Albers and others at Yale University, he moved to Kenya. While working in Tsavo National Park, he documented African wildlife, nature, and human activities, including the carcasses of elephants being overhunted by hunters. His 1965 compilation of these works, "The End of the Game," is considered Beard's masterpiece and has gained worldwide acclaim. This book is a collection of reproductions of Beard's diaries, which he kept from around 1950. Although it is a diary, it is a bold collage of photographs, drawings, text, and magazine clippings. In the commentary, photography critic Kotaro Iizawa writes, "You can open any page of the 'diary,' but what unfolds there is a view that could be described as a hodgepodge of his memories and records. They are chaos, fragments, and thoroughly trivial," and it is a series of images that make you feel as if you are peering into Beard's mind. Art direction by Tsugiya Inoue. With obi (book band).
