"— ・ ・ / Chotantan (Signed)" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Kanade Hamamoto (2000-). This book is a reinterpretation of the work of the same name that was presented at the art festival "SENSE ISLAND/LAND 2024" held in Yokosuka in 2024. Hamamoto has continued his practice of exploring the traces of memories and sensations remaining in the land, traversing not only photography but also field recording and installation. In this work, he quietly overlays his gaze onto the current seaside landscape, starting with records of the Fukuryu Special Attack Unit that trained on the Nobi coast of Yokosuka during the final stages of the war. The photographs included do not directly depict war relics, but rather capture the current state of nature, such as the light on the surface of the sea, the humid air, and the swaying of the plants, where the past and present ambiguously intersect. The book also comes with a 7-inch record containing diaries and materials from the time of production, as well as sound sources from field recordings, and is characterized by its structure that attempts to touch upon memories not only visually but also aurally. As the title, which refers to Morse code, suggests, this book is a collection of works that attempts to respond from the present to faint communications sent from the seabed. Winner of the 50th Kimura Ihei Photography Award. First edition, 300 copies. Signed by the photographer .
