"Canary Gate" is a photobook by Japanese female photographer Rieko Shiga. Rieko Shiga is one of the leading young photographers in contemporary Japan. She studied photography at Chelsea College of Art, University of the Arts London, and won the 33rd Kimura Ihei Award for "Lilly," which was created using otherworldly prints and techniques with residents of London housing estates as subjects, and "Canary," a record of her residencies in Sendai, Brisbane, and Singapore. Currently based in Sendai, she continues to work as a photographer attracting attention both domestically and internationally. This book is a sequel to "Canary." During the shoot, when various things became difficult and she began to feel confused both mentally and physically, she felt the need to approach the image in a way other than taking photographs, and decided to try to borrow the power of words, which she had not touched much before, and wrote essays. Through the photographs and text, not only the photographer's creativity toward images but also her struggles and conflicts are spoken of, and the depths of "Canary" are etched into the book, and the book design by Daishiro Mori further enhances Shiga's enigmatic worldview. Contains 56 prints.
