"Nande?" is a photobook of Japanese talent and actress Runa Nagai. Born in Tokyo, Nagai entered the entertainment industry in her mid-teens and gained attention mainly through gravure modeling from the late 1990s, expanding her activities to television and movies. Notably, she became the subject of some of Japan's leading photographers from early in her career. In 1998, Kishin Shinoyama published "Accidents Series 5," and the following year, Nobuyoshi Araki published "Runa Amagi Inko." The fact that two photographers with such different styles, Shinoyama and Araki, successively photographed her suggests that Nagai had a strong presence as a subject for photography at the time. In this book, published in 2000, Toshiaki Masutsugu was in charge of the photography. It captures Nagai during the period when she became widely known for her appearance in "Shutsudo! Miniskirt Police," and shows a mix of girlish features and expressions of transition into adulthood. After that, she also worked as an actress and retired from the entertainment industry in 2008. This book tells the story of her life as she raced through the late 1990s and early 2000s.
