"Shibuya," a collection of works by Japanese photographer Yasushi Takahashi. A member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society (JPS) and the Nikakai Photography Department, Takahashi has been exhibiting his work for many years, focusing on the movement of people, light, and fleeting forms that emerge within urban spaces. The photography for this work begins at and around the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, known for its world-class crowds, and gradually expands to the ever-changing city of Shibuya itself. Capturing various elements that make up the city, such as giant buildings and billboards, crowds filling the intersection, and people encountered on the streets, Takahashi captures the moments when the city and people constantly influence each other. Shibuya is undergoing large-scale redevelopment, with the landscapes of yesterday disappearing and being replaced by new ones. On the other hand, diverse people from all eras are drawn to it, coming and going with their own purposes and dreams. Composed almost entirely of photographs, this book allows readers to experience the speed, crowds, light, and unique energy of the city through sight rather than explanation. It is an urban photography collection that documents the ever-changing "Shibuya" of the 2020s.
