"Homo Sovieticus (Signed)" is a photobook by Belgian photographer Carl de Keyser. Born in Kortrijk, Belgium in 1958, Carl de Keyser studied film and video at university and began working as a freelancer in the late 1980s, establishing his own studio. At the same time, he also taught at his alma mater, the Royal Academy of Art in Ghent, and worked as an educator. In 1990, he won the Eugene Smith Award for "God Inc.," which depicted religious issues in America, and he became a member of Magnum Photos in 1994. Carl de Keyser is a highly accomplished photographer who has published numerous photojournalism books, reporting on conflicts, poverty, and religious issues around the world, including India, Africa, and Asia. This book is one of his early representative works, a documentary depicting the turbulent daily life in the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. The illustrations, which beautifully harmonize documentary elements that capture social conditions and stories with outstanding artistic merit, shine with the characteristics of a Magnum member.
