David Hockney, a British painter and contemporary artist, is also very popular in Japan. In the 1960s and 70s, he was a leading figure in British Pop Art alongside his classmates Allen Jones and Kitai. In the 1980s, he pioneered new frontiers in photographic art with his photo and Polaroid collages, and in recent years, he has continued to relentlessly explore new forms of expression using iPads and iPhones. This book is a newly revised and expanded Japanese edition of a book originally published in 2001 by the British publisher Thames & Hudson, and was published by Seigensha in 2006. Hockney, interested in "how mirrors and lenses were used in the creation of many great works of Western painting" (from the cover), traces his interest back to the Renaissance, starting with the early 19th-century painter Ingres, and explores the techniques involved. While Hockney's own works are included, classical Western paintings are featured as reference images for verification. While not a pure collection of Hockney's works, this book offers an interesting exploration of Hockney's approach to art history. Published in 2010, this is the first Japanese edition, softcover. The dust jacket is missing.
