"BAXT (Signed)" is a collection of works by American photographer Andrew Mixis (1969-). Since the late 1990s, Mixis has been based in Lithuania, continuously documenting the transformation of society and culture in the former Soviet bloc. He later became widely known for his "DISKO" series, but at the heart of his work is an approach that observes the lives of people on the fringes of society not as external consumption, but by building relationships over time. This book is one of his early representative works, based on long-term coverage of a Roma community living in Lithuania. The title "Baxt" means "fate" or "good fortune" in Roma, and the environmental portraits included in the book capture not only the people themselves, but also photographs and decorations pasted on the walls of their homes, as well as furniture and everyday objects. While traces of the realities of the post-socialist era and poverty are visible, this book depicts more than that. It is a book in which memories of family and community, the transmission of culture, and the pride and dignity that are not lost even in harsh environments quietly emerge. Signed by the photographer .
