"Brahmins and Jantas: India (With Print)" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Koichi Ishida. Born in Beijing in 1943, Koichi Ishida studied under Shigeichi Nagano after graduating from what is now Tokyo Polytechnic University, and has been active as a freelance photographer since the age of 22. He has created works mainly in remote mountain villages in Japan, as well as in China and Southeast Asia. His style is appealing not only for its superficial beauty, but also for its expressive power that conveys the background and story contained in the images. He has published numerous exhibitions and photobooks with his unique style that intersects journalism and documentary. This book is his first photobook, published in 1971, and is considered his breakthrough work. He was intuitively drawn to India, and when he first visited the country in the spring of 1967, he said that he felt a strong sense of being "alive" despite being overwhelmed by the intense heat and smells. This was because he was struck by the hearts of the lower classes who were desperately and positively trying to live despite suffering from hunger and poverty. Published by Shashin Hyoronsha, the publisher of renowned masterpieces such as "Goodbye Photography" and "I am a King," this book boasts stunning gravure printing and exceptional layout. Includes two prints .
