"Plans Are For the Poor (Signed)" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Misato Matsufuji (1991-). Matsufuji began photography after meeting Peter Sutherland and Patrick Tsai in high school, and has been working as a freelancer since 2012. She has attracted attention for her snapshots that capture close friends, lovers, and everyday scenes with a film camera, possessing an unpretentious intimacy and a unique sense of distance. In addition to shooting for "VICE JAPAN" and working with fashion brands, she has been developing activities that cross the lines of photography and youth culture, such as a two-person exhibition with Shiori Ikeno. This book is a collection of works that led to her solo exhibition of the same name held at CLEAR EDITION & GALLERY in Roppongi in 2018. The exhibition was curated by artist Joji Nakamura, who focused on the sense of distance between Matsufuji and her subjects that can be seen in her photographs. The photographs are a collection of images that seem to surrender to the scenes that appear before them and to chance encounters, without being bound by plans or purposes. This book lightly captures fragments of everyday life, while highlighting the lingering distance between people even in intimate relationships, and the sense of time passing by.
