Swiss photographer René Groebli's photo book "Rail Magic / Magie der Schiene" is still fresh in our memory, as "The Eye of Love" was introduced at the 2017 "KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival" with the theme of "Love". Groebli's second book was published in the 1950s, and was a personal book that described his honeymoon with his wife Rita. The first book, "Rail Magic", was published privately in 1949. Several revised editions have been published over the past few decades, and this is the latest edition. Compared to the original, which consisted of 15 plates, this book consists of a total of 74 images, and is made up of plates taken on his first train journey from Switzerland to France. Inspired by images from movies and films, Groebli asked himself how to add "movement" and "dynamism" to still photographs, and after answering his questions, he skillfully manipulated blur and out-of-focus images, bold compositions, and black and white with strong shading to create a graphically graceful world. A masterpiece that has left its mark in the history of photography.
