"Diving Women (Signed)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Yoshinobu Nakamura. Born in 1925 on Naoshima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Nakamura's father was one of the island's last remaining fishing masters. He grew up gazing at the Seto Inland Sea. Even after joining Mitsubishi Refinery, he continued his amateur photography career, studying under Yoichi Midorikawa, a leading photographer of the Seto Inland Sea. After turning 30, he became a professional photographer, capturing the local climate and culture through photographs in works such as "The Seto Inland Sea" and "The People of the Seto Inland Sea." He also left behind significant works, such as "Steam Trains and Steam Locomotives" and "Diving Women," that convey the fading customs of Japan's folklore. This book is a revised and expanded edition of Nakamura's masterpiece, "Diving Women of Japan," published in 1962. With the advent of wetsuits, "diving women" have become a rare sight. Their brave, naked, loincloth-clad figures brave the ocean floor, radiate strength and grace. This book not only covers the culture of female divers in Japan, including Tsushima, Noto, Shima, Echigo, Kazusa, Bungo, Rikuchu, Awa, Matsumae, and Amami, but also introduces the culture of female divers in Asia, including Korea and Taiwan. It is also a valuable record collection from a folkloristic perspective. Commentary by Tsuneichi Miyamoto. Limited to 2,500 copies. Signed .
