"The Wind of Otafu" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Michihiko Tani. Since 2000, Michihiko Tani has been based in Okayama and continues to work there. Until the 1990s, he was based in Tokyo, publishing his work in Asahi Camera and holding solo exhibitions at the Nikon Salon, and in his younger days he received guidance from critics such as Tsutomu Watanabe. From the late 1990s, he began publishing photobooks at his own expense, and has received cooperation from Akira Hasegawa, a former Asahi Camera employee and editor of Masahisa Fukase's masterpiece "Ravens," as well as critic and renowned editor, and Michitaka Ota of Sokyusha. The beautiful island and its nature, steeped in history, are now withered and decaying, with a population of only 100 and just 6 students at the branch school, resulting in depopulation. This poignant book captures that reality and the faint glimmer of life and hope that still remains.
