"Akira Yoshimura Works: A Collection of Akira Yoshimura Photos" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Akira Yoshimura (1959-2012). After graduating from the Department of Photography at Nihon University College of Art, he enrolled in the Graduate School of Tokyo College of Photography in 1982. In the mid-1980s, he gained recognition as a photographer of urban snapshots, and subsequently garnered attention for his work exploring historical events. While he has not published many photobooks, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions since the 1980s. This book, compiled after Yoshimura's death, was edited by curator Masafumi Fukagawa and photographers Masahiro Minato and Hiroyoshi Yamazaki. While Yoshimura is often described as a solitary photographer, this book features reconstructed versions of representative works from his later years, such as "Watershed," "Cry of the Darkness," "New Story," and "Genogram," as well as "Akira Yoshimura," a collection that Yoshimura himself compiled during his lifetime. This book brings together the wonderful works and texts of Yoshimura, a rare photographer who has taken photographs in Korea and other places, overlapping his own origins with the traces of Japan's war, capturing images that are accompanied by deep philosophical reflection.
