"Sweet Life (Acceptable)" is a collection of works by Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990), a leading Dutch photographer. Following "Love on the Left Bank" (1956), "Bagara" (1958), and "Jazz" (1959), this is one of Elsken's masterpieces, published in both Japanese and English. It is a record of Elsken's 14-month trip with his wife Gerda, and is made up of images taken in Africa, America, and Asia. It is full of Elsken's characteristic "humanity" and "love," and the powerful images with close-ups and strong contrasts shine. It was "Japanese printing technology" that made this image possible. When publishing this book, Elsken wrote to his friend Eikoh Hosoe, asking him to introduce him to a Japanese printing company because he wanted to use a matte gravure printing similar to Rose Cruelty, and Hosoe ran around checking the printing process. From landscapes to portraits to snapshots, Elsken's "Sweet Life" over the course of 14 months. Japanese edition. (Library stamp and pages are missing)
