"Ode / Psalm (Condition B)" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Katsuji Fukuda. Alongside Kimura Ihei and Domon Ken, Fukuda was a "stylish photographer" active since the prewar period. Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, he moved to Tokyo and worked at Olympus before moving to the Kansai region, where he served as an editorial assistant for the legendary photo magazine "Hakuyo," edited by Hakuyo Fuchigami, which contributed to the emergence and development of modern photography. He subsequently focused primarily on the commercial world, pursuing the worlds of "beauty" and "art," focusing on "women," "nudes," "still lifes," and "cityscapes." Starting in the mid-1930s, he serialized portraits and photography techniques for actress Setsuko Hara and other models in "Asahi Graph," a collection of his work titled "How to Photograph Women," which became a bestseller. This book is the 19th in the "Asahi Sonorama" series, a collection of works by 27 renowned photographers, published in the late 1970s. The book is divided into three parts: Fukuda's representative works "Women" and "Still Life," as well as snapshot landscapes set in Italy. (Jacket and spine are heavily discolored.)
