"Valparaiso (English First Edition)" is a photo book by photographer Sergio Larraín (1931-2012), born in Santiago, Chile. He became interested in photography when he studied forestry at the University of California, Berkeley. After working as a freelance photographer for magazines, he was discovered by Henri Cartier-Bresson and joined Magnum Photos in 1961. However, since 1970, he has retreated to the mountains of Chile, devoted himself to yoga and meditation, and retired from photography. This book is a reprint of one of the few valuable collections of Larraín's work published in 1991. It is composed of images taken during his travels with fellow poet and politician Pablo Neruda for the magazine "Du Magazine". The style of Magnum members from this period was mainly "journalistic," but Larraín's personal works are very poetic and the photography is outstanding. English version.
