"Tokyo Summer Story" is a photo collection by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. Published in 2003, this book is a unique take on Araki's many snapshot collections, with Araki in a taxi shooting the view from the window. While the taxi door is clearly visible in some of the photos, the ones taken through the window may not be obvious at first glance as having been taken from inside the vehicle. From inside the vehicle, he takes photos of people waiting at traffic lights, people passing by the side of the car, and moving from downtown to residential areas. According to an explanation by Hitoshi Suzuki, who designed the book at the end of the book, the photos were taken with two 6x7 format "Makina" cameras equipped with 90mm and 55mm lenses, and the taxi took two to three hours from Araki's home to travel around Tokyo before returning. The explanations are also interesting, such as the affinity between Suzuki's camera and car, and the continuity in each frame of Araki's photos that should be disconnected (called "Araki magic").
