"Matter / Burn Out" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Daisuke Yokota. Daisuke Yokota is one of the young photographers currently attracting the most attention worldwide. Rather than creating "records" or "images" by taking photographs on location, Yokota places importance on the contingency obtained through editing and processing using Photoshop and the development process that incorporates various special techniques, and creates new images by interweaving abstraction and concreteness, reality and unreality, spirit and matter, chance and inevitability, etc. This series is an act of reconstructing the meaning and value standards of photography as it has traditionally been held, and also gives a sense of modernity based on the influence of digital cameras and the spread of the Internet, discovering new possibilities for photography. In recent years, Yokota has been an artist who has gone beyond the boundaries of photography and has been garnering attention with his installations and other works. This book documents the exhibition of Yokota's masterpiece "Matter" in China, and the subsequent burning of the exhibit by Yokota himself, reducing it to ashes. It contains a series of documents about the work (Matter) and the act of burning it to ashes (Burn Out), and contains 4,000 processed images of the process.
