A collection of works by Japanese photographer Tamotsu Shiihara (1905-1974). Co-authored with Ryuichi Kaneko (1948-2021), a world-renowned photography historian and one of the leading photo book collectors, who passed away in 2021, Kaneko wrote the text. Shiihara was a pioneer of prewar avant-garde photography, a member of the Tanpei Photography Club, which also included Nakaji Yasui, and was said to be one of the top ten Tanpei photographers. He studied Western painting until university and excelled in avant-garde creations such as photograms and photomontages. In particular, his "Photo Peinture", which expresses images drawn by hand on photographic paper, is known as a unique work by Shiihara, who has his roots as a painter. "Photography should not continue down the same path as painting forever. Isn't it true that photography, which has progressed under the influence of painting, should now be on a different track, as photography, different from painting?" (From the artist's own comment in this book). This book was published in a limited edition of 300 by Only Photography, a Berlin-based publisher of high-quality photo books, and is a valuable book containing 113 illustrations.
