"Wind" is a photo collection by Japanese photographer Yasuji Yaguchi. Born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1933, Yaguchi's main occupation was construction. He started taking photographs in 1972 at the age of 39, but died suddenly of a stroke in 1976 (aged 43), so he was only an amateur photographer for about four years. He joined the Japan Realism Photography Group, sought the teachings of Hide Shinzo and others, and was an admirer of Domon Ken. When he watched Domon's "Pilgrimage to Old Temples," he sat upright, folded his arms, held his breath, and kept his eyes wide open and motionless. This book was published after his death, at the suggestion of his fellow members of the realism group, and was produced by three people: Hide Shinzo, Hashimoto Koji, and Kamiyama Yoichi. It contains 108 images selected by Hide, who was in charge of editing, from nearly 50,000 negatives. In addition to the documentary elements inherited from Domon and Hide, the book is fascinated by the illustrations that seem to condense the atmosphere of the 1970s, such as the rich beauty of form reminiscent of Yasuhiro Ishimoto and the sentimental atmosphere of Nobuyoshi Araki, the high-contrast avant-garde expression of Daido Moriyama, and the mental landscape elements of Yasushi Sugino.
