"Paris at Night" is a photo collection by the celebrated French photographer Brassaï. Born in Hungary in 1899, Brassaï immigrated to Paris in the 1920s and spent his career there. He studied under the master André Kertesz and, alongside Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Doisneau, became one of France's leading photographers, active since the prewar period. He was also close friends with artists such as Picasso, Matisse, and Giacometti, and was himself an artist with extraordinary talent for sculpture and drawing. Brassaï is known for his works "Graffiti," a collection of graffiti painted on city walls and grounds, and "Paris du Nuit." This book is the Japanese version of "Paris at Night," originally published in 1987. This book beautifully depicts the charm of Paris, from its underground world, far removed from the glamorous image of Paris, with its prostitutes, vagrants, streets illuminated in the dark, rain-soaked cobblestones, and blazing factories, to the beautiful scenery that the city exudes. Please enjoy the camera eye of Brassaï, who was described by novelist Henry Miller as "the eye of Paris."
