"Asian Gigolo" is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Yoshihiro Tachiki (1937-). Tachiki, who has been at the forefront of the advertising and fashion fields for many years, turned his camera on the hosts who gathered in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district in the early 2000s. At the time, this profession, which became visible along with the term "charismatic host," was a symbol of the male image that created a persona and established a character within a consumer society. In this book, Tachiki captures portraits of several individuals, including Romeo Hisaki, Ojiro Nagase, and Goro Hinata, bringing out their individual images through their attire, bodies, and demeanor. There are some nude images, but the main focus is rather on the presence and zeitgeist of the people living in the city's nightlife, quietly reflecting the nature of desire and gaze in the post-bubble city. This is a book that documents the night culture of the early 2000s.
