"Tribute to OTOMO" is a tribute art book created to celebrate the achievements of Katsuhiro Otomo (1954-), one of Japan's leading manga artists and film directors. Otomo revolutionized manga expression with works like "Domu" and "AKIRA," and his meticulous depictions of cities, cinematic compositions, and overwhelming artistic skill have continued to influence creators around the world. In particular, the 1988 animated film "AKIRA" was one of the catalysts for Japanese animation to gain international recognition, and its visuals and worldview continue to have a significant impact on the fields of manga, film, games, and art to this day. This book is an official tribute book realized approximately 30 years after "AKIRA," thanks to a project by the French publisher Glenat, and features contributions from approximately 80 leading artists from Europe, America, and Japan, including Jiro Taniguchi and Masamune Shirow. Each artist has contributed a newly drawn work expressing their respect for Otomo's work. Motifs that symbolize Otomo's works, such as Kaneda, Tetsuo, the landscapes of Neo-Tokyo, original mecha, and depictions of psychic powers, are reborn in new forms through the individuality of the participating artists, and the breadth of these diverse interpretations conveys once again the magnitude of Katsuhiro Otomo's presence. This book is not only a collection of works by one artist, but also a valuable record that reflects the world of manga and illustration culture after Otomo.
