"5,000,000 Steps in Kyoto" is a photobook by Japanese photographer Toyotaka Senoo (1940-). Born in Okayama Prefecture and raised in Fukuoka Prefecture, Senoo aspired to become a photographer at the age of 40 while working as an office worker in Osaka, and studied photography at the Osaka College of Photography. He continued to take street snapshots, walking around the city and capturing the casual gestures and everyday moments of ordinary people. Rather than Kyoto as a tourist city represented by famous landmarks and historical sites, Senoo focuses on the people and their lives that breathe life into the alleys and street corners. This book, true to the author's words, "I love the sight of people in the city," documents the everyday life and human warmth of an ancient capital encountered through walking.
