Bruce Davidson's photobook, *Subway (First Edition, Acceptable)*, is a masterpiece by one of America's leading photographers. A founding member of Magnum Photos, Davidson continues to publish numerous works to this day. This book, published in 1986, is a representative work and a classic that continues to be reprinted in revised editions. It consists of color illustrations taken in the New York subway during the early 1980s. The subway, a human zoo, has been the subject of many photographers, including Walker Evans, Hellen Levitt, and even Nobuyoshi Araki. The New York subway, in particular, was a terrifying world that even locals feared, though now safe enough for tourists to use. Davidson's daring to step into this hellish place, his respect for his subjects, and his incredibly intimate photographs that reveal the unknown underbelly of New York, are truly admirable achievements as journalistic work. This first edition differs from the current revised edition in terms of the number of illustrations and editing, and is highly recommended for its youthful energy and more dynamic style.
