This is the exhibition catalog for "Kiyoshi Otsuji Photography Exhibition: The Eye of Kiyoshi Otsuji - Photography Here and Now," featuring the works of Japanese photographer Kiyoshi Otsuji (1923–2001). Otsuji was a photographer who was active within the movement of postwar Japanese avant-garde art. He participated in the art group "Jikken Kobo" (Experimental Workshop), formed around Shuzo Takiguchi, and explored the possibilities of photography intersecting with expressions from other fields such as music, fine arts, and theater. He is known for his works that carefully re-examine the relationship between form, arrangement, and light in familiar everyday objects and spaces, but he also produced many documentary photographs of art works and exhibitions, and is a figure who recorded the postwar Japanese art scene. This book was published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum Exchange Gallery in 2002, and was compiled as an exhibition catalog planned by photographer Yukina Uchino, who continues to research Otsuji's work. This book introduces the artist's photographic works and his perspective anew, and conveys the exhibition that provided an opportunity to re-examine the relationship between postwar avant-garde art and photography.
